This work diminished short-term revenue, but was best for customers, much appreciated, and should bode well for customers and AWS longer-term. We're also making progress on many of our newer business investments that have the potential to be important to customers and Amazon long-term. Being intentional about building primitives requires patience. Customers building their own FM must tackle several challenges in getting a model into production. Customers' AI models contain some of their most sensitive data.

All three major averages posted gains for the third consecutive week, lifted by solid quarterly earnings and positive economic data. Earnings season ramps up next week, with five of the Super Six mega-cap stocks delivering results. Employment numbers are the most important economic data, with Friday's January nonfarm payrolls report carrying the most weight. The January ISM Manufacturing report on Thursday and December's factory orders report Friday are expected to show the sector still in contraction mode. But earnings and commentary this week from peer Sartorious made us encouraged about a return to growth in 2024.

Dividend-paying stocks took a backseat to this year's tech-driven market rally, but 2024 could be the year that they come back in vogue. A couple of catalysts could swing the pendulum back in favor of dividend payers in 2024, including the Fed's forecast for three rate cuts in the new year. "Not only do you get the dividend yield and dividend growth, but you get some capital appreciation perhaps – that's where it gets interesting," he added. Special dividend payers Kim Abmeyer, certified financial planner and founder of Abmeyer Wealth Management in Dallas, sees dividend-paying stocks coming into focus for 2024. The energy company in November announced that it raised its regular dividend by 10% and it declared a $1.50 per share special dividend.

Broadridge Financial Solutions , which provides proxy services for big corporations during boardroom brawls, could generate as much as $50 million in event-driven revenue from the Peltz-Disney war, according to Evercore ISI analyst David Togut. During Trian's 2017 proxy battle against Procter & Gamble, the consumer giant paid about $60 million to Broadridge for proxy service, Togut said. Evercore ISI said a company's retail investor base is the best representation for Broadridge's revenue. Since Disney has 81% of the retail shares P & G has, it estimated that Broadridge could make up to $50 million from the proxy war. Evercore ISI set an outperform rating on Broadridge and raised its 12-month price target to $230 from $226.

Corporate bond trading has entered its ChatGPT era. LTX, a corporate bond trading platform owned by Broadridge, Wall Street's omnipresent behind-the-scenes provider, launched a chatbot specifically geared toward answering bond-related questions. Marketplaces for trading bonds like MarketAxess, Tradeweb, and Bloomberg have doubled down on efforts to make trading electronic. The results are always important, but it's the guidance and management commentary we will really hone in on to better understand the path ahead. In Amazon's case, a solid first quarter for its AWS cloud business was overshadowed by management seeing a material slowdown in April. ET: Nonfarm Payrolls Looking back It was the biggest week of this earnings season for the Club as several of our mega-cap holdings and industry bellwethers reported results.

NEW YORK, Nov 4 (Reuters Breakingviews) - As America heads to the polls on Tuesday, and the political climate gets more acrimonious, powerful companies have two choices. Their bid to avoid unwanted attention comes with a cost, because the alternative to conscious capitalism isn’t democracy but apathy. BlackRock affirmed its commitment on Thursday to letting individual customers vote shares in companies at annual meetings, rather than BlackRock voting on their behalf. Ron DeSantis, the governor of Florida, has taken aim at “woke” capitalism by barring state pension funds from investing based on non-pecuniary goals. From the other side, New York’s City comptroller is “reassessing” its relationship with Fink’s firm because BlackRock isn’t being progressive enough.

Only 25% of CFOs surveyed by CNBC support the SEC's climate disclosure proposal, according to the survey. More than half (55%) of CFOs are opposed to the SEC climate rule, and 35% say they "strongly oppose" it. Proving climate materialityA critical issue for CFOs with the new SEC climate disclosure is the lack of a clear correlation between the climate data and financial statements. The first task for CFOs on climate disclosure, Clayton says, is to be candid with investors and stakeholders about this disconnect.
